The VA recently changed the salaries that they pay podiatrists (same for all VA hospitals), and salaries improved dramatically (low 100k to 200k-300k range). If podiatry was in a downward spiral like pharmacy, this would not have happened. The VA needs podiatrists, and this is a victory for podiatry as a whole.
Sports medicine is not a major part of podiatry. But I don't think that sports medicine is a major part of a foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons practice either.
