I do trust the service manager at this dealership and he definitely knows the lingo and they have mechanics there with big diesel trucks that are tuned and all that so I feel like they know what they're doing. The ECM might need to see itself out of limp mode, which would mean connecting the missing parts back on for it to see them to pop out of limp mode, and be tuned.

So that would be my first suspicion. The 2011+ solenoid module has a GRAY wiring connector. The 2007-2010 style solenoid has a WHITE wiring connector.

If yours has electronic four wheel drive, the electric acutator could be out or going out. you should be able to remove the rod and simply move the switch by hand on the transfer case. It will get you out of 4 wheel drive until you have the ime to diagnose the electronics at least.
