I like to charge around solo or with expendable horse units/companions and hit the enemy during this time. I like to use square/shield wall for charging cavalry. You'll lose some guys mostly likely, but it's amazing how well shield wall infantry can bully cav. I've been experimenting with a few ranged units in the infantry formation and visa versa.

Battanian troops mostly sucked except for their Fians which hard carried them to being a pretty strong faction. Battanian Fians were best archers, Imperial Legionaries were best infantry, Vlandian Banner Knight were best melee cavalry, but Khuzait Khan Guard were basically almost as good in melee while also being amazing in ranged.
