If it is a limit order, you will either trade at or better than your limit or you will not trade at all. If you submit an after hours order, it will be entered in the after hours session. Volume and liquidity are best at the open and the close. There's no real reason we need to have trading during the rest of the day. Market can be open from 1:30 pm eastern to 2 pm eastern every day. We'll save millions of man-hours that would have been wasted sitting in front of a terminal.
