You don't need an expensive type. Cheap Wallyworld 10w fork oil is fine. Be aware that a special tool is needed to disassemble the left fork on an 1800. Also be aware that a special tool or a home-made tool is needed to drive in the fork seals on any VTX.

I have a 2004 VTX Classic. There are two oil drain plugs I know about. When draining oil from my other bikes I have usually stick a oil pump syphon tube in the oil fill hole and draw out the oil that way. A few drops will come out when talking the oil filter off.
