The motor is a 1989 Mercury Black Max 150. serial - B313046 Here's what happens: First, the boat won't idle, and ... Its an 85 200HP Black max. It seems to have the xr2 advance on it. I had water in cylinder one which new gaskets have seem to have solved. It does not want to idle nor run well. I have only started it on the trailer in neutral.The overall displacements of the 2 engines are different. The 135 is a 2 liter engine, the 175 is a 2.5 liter engine. The 2 engines share the same crankshaft, but a different block all together. If you click on this picture below, i'm attaching the specs on the 2 engines so you can see the numbers.

Reed valves are just under the intake manifold. I recommend you look around for the real cause of the powdered aluminum in the airbox.

A stuck float needle won't let it idle. A leaking float needle won't let it idle. A leaking float needle won't be noticed at high speed. Then disconnect the black/yellow trace wires that goes to each switchbox. (That's what the cdi spark coil drivers are called.) and try again. Your symptoms are those of a failing high speed winding, not making enough voltage/current to fire the ignition at higher speeds.
