The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. Actually 4 books (Shadow of the Torturer, Claw of the Conciliator, Sword of the Lictor, and The Citadel of the Autarch), but its the peak of fantasy/sci-fi, IMO. Much more dense and rewarding than most of the standard sc-fi and fantasy authors you regularly see on this sub.
Anything by H.P. Lovecraft (Cool Air and the Case of Charles Dexter Ward in particular). The Books of Blood by Clive Barker. The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway and The Reluctant Fundamentalist, by Mohsin Hamid are the two stand outs for me. Invisible Cities, a short novel by Italo Calvino.Jul 26, 2021 ...
