It seems the 5e arcane trickster is a mix of the 3.5 arcane trickster and assassin, since the spells they get like invisibility, etc. are very similar to the 3.5 assassin. Their spellcasting ability is Int, just like the assassin. However, it looks like 5th ed arcane tricksters get their spells from study, not "like a bard" as assassins in 3.5 did.
