I check to make sure the oil is somewhere on the stick. If it is I ride the bike to fully warm it up and let it run on the side stand a minute or two.1. Have some extra oil bolt gaskets on hand. They're about $0.50 each and when you need one you really need one. 2. Don't overfill the crankcase. The manual may say 4 quarts but don't just blindly dump in 4 quarts. Pour in 3-3.5 quarts then start it and let it run for a couple of minutes looking for leaks and such.

Those nuts on the filter end can twist right off so then ya have a smooth filter to try to get loose with a strap wrench or whatever other means.The Harley dino 20W50 is a decent oil, so you have erred only on the side of caution. Not a bad choice at all, other than it's a 2 dollar oil at 5 to 6 bucks a quart. The HD oil is made by Citgo. Havoline 20W50 is much better, and should still be SL rated if that's a concern. Primary and Trans you don't have to worry about that. Make sure your bike is warm before you change fluids. Makes draining them a lot faster.
