John deere 4020 problems.

Now we are a dairy farm. We have a 1964 John Deere 4020 diesel, the weight retainer for the governor in the injector pump broke so we ordered the part and began to disassemble the pump. (uses the RoosaMaster DB pump). During disassembly, my Dad broke the "cam locating screw" off in the housing, so we cannot continue to disassemble. When starting, the starter motor sprocket does not grab the starter ring properly causing the engine to not go around and start. The starter ring was replaced six months ago by the previous owner. I have a '67 4020. It has the two metal fuel filters. loosen the bleed screw on the bottom one, pump the lever on the back side of the fuel pump until fuel starts to run out, close it and open the one on the top filter.May 30, 2009 · May 30, 2009. #1. I have a 4020 that is not getting any fuel to the injectors. I have bled the system and transfer pump is pumping good up to the injector pump. But when I crack the injectors nothing. There is a 5/16 bolt on the outward side of the injector pump. If I loosen this bolt, it will run normally but shoots fuel out the hole.

All cracked/popped adequately, however, 2 of the injectors test pattern was not real good if pressure was added slowly so I replaced them. This did not cure the miss.

#1. I have an early 4020 and I just put an overhaul kit in the brake valve. I put everything back together following my JD service manual. Then I bleed the brakes. Now the brakes are totally locked up. The tractor won't move. But if I open the bleed screws, it will move. What could I have done wrong?

Requires a double split and teardown of top shaft in tranny IIRC. Usually when synchros are worn the problem is excessive grinding when trying to shift. Sorry but I think you'll need to remove RS valve housing to resolve the 3 pt problem. 1st I'll suggest to acquire a 5000# gauge and check stand-by pressure. If stand-by pressure isn't above 1700 psi the priority valve would be blocking pressure oil to 3 pt. Stand-by pressure should be 2250 psi.
