Details of 39-2. I purchased this 39-2 back in the 80's. I just would like some more details. Serial number is A169xxx. This indicates that it was produced 1972-3 time frame. The pistol has a nickel slide with a blue aluminum frame. On the right side of the slide is engraved 'Connecticut State Police, 75th Anniversary, 1903-1978'.

I say early 1982 because later the same year, serial numbers went to a 3 letter prefix on all S&W revolvers. Since your gun has a 2-1/2" barrel it is also a "round butt" frame with a smaller grip to make the gun more concealable.

Dolf, the number you are looking at is NOT the serial number, it's the factory assembly number, used to keep the major parts of the revolver together for final fitting. The correct serial number will be stamped on the butt of the revolver. You will have to remove the stocks to see it.
